Cabot Head Lighthouse keeper's diary written in 1949. Inscribed on the front cover is: "Howard Boyle. Light House 1940 / Inventory forms to be mailed before Oct. 1. 2 copies each."
Each page reflects a different month and contains a separate line for every day. On each line has been recorded the time of extinguishing, time of lighting, length of time lighted, weather (usually the wind direction has been noted) and other remarks. At the bottom of each page is a space to record the quantity of oil used in the lighthouse and dwelling, and spaces for recording whether painting has been done or if there were absences. Howard Boyle has signed the bottom of each page.
In the middle of the book is a loose page entitled "Department of Transport Supplies List" for July 19, 1950. It is addressed to "Acting L'Keeper R. Gilbert."
