Cabot Head Lighthouse keeper's diary written in 1950.
The bottoms of the page have been signed by different individuals, including: G. Vanstone (April-June), Ray Gilbert / H.R. Gilbert (July-Nov.) and Howard Boyle.
Each page reflects a different month and contains a separate line for every day. On each line has been recorded the time of extinguishing, time of lighting, length of time lighted, weather (usually the wind direction has been noted) and other remarks. At the bottom of each page is a space to record the quantity of oil used in the lighthouse and dwelling, and spaces for recording whether painting has been done or if there were absences.
Written on the front cover is: "Inventory and supply list should be at Agency by October 1st," as well as "cavart mudfuss down huron & Georgian."
|Provenance||Brent Skippen, Cabot Head lightkeeper from 1982-1987, gave this document to Friends of Cabot Head in 2012. Friends of Cabot Head then donated the item to the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre.|
