This collection consists primarily of photocopied newspaper articles, along with other resources such as family trees and vital statistic registrations, concerning individuals and events primarily related to Southampton, Ontario and the surrounding area. John B. Weichel collected these materials and used them in creating his publications, including: a) "Bruce Coast fo'c's'le" newsletter / booklet, 1992-1996; b) "Forgotten Lives: Early history of a coastal village." Southampton: Bruce County Museum & Archives, 2001. Print. c) "Forgotten Times: Marine history of Southampton & the Bruce Coast." Southampton: Bruce County Museum & Archives, [2002]. Print. (2 volumes), and d) "Skeely Skipper: Southampton's master mariner Captain John Spence." Southampton: Bruce County Museum & Archives, 2001. Print. The majority of the collection was provided to the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre by John Weichel in 2006 (assigned #A2006.179). In 2013 John Weichel gave Robin Hilborn additional research files for use in his research. In November 2013, Mr. Hilborn also donated those materials to the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre (A2016.093) |
