LETTER TRANSCRIPTION:

Witley Camp, July 23rd, 1917

Pte. Earnie Cunningham,
B. Co. 10th Bn, 252428

Dear Earnie,

I have been going to write you since a long time now, but I had not your address. I asked Lila for your address and I got it last week. It was too bad you didn't know where we were when you were over here. I often wondered why you weren't getting over.

So you had the mumps too. I was over at that joint the second week I was in this Country, Jack and I both took them the very same time. I heard about poor Edgar Garland getting killed. I was talking to the fellow that slept with him all last summer about a week ago. He said he knew you and he was in the same platoon as Edgar. I didn't ask him his name, but its likely you will know him. All the boys from around Glamis are fine. Say Earnie, I wish you could of got in with us last winter. I often wished you had been with us fellows. I hope to see you over there before long. It is likely we will run across each other some time over there.

I guess you hear we have a new Col. now. He went to France with the first Contingent and then went back to Can. and took another Bn over, and after going to France was wounded and sent back to Can. again. So he is back for the 3rd time, he is a good fellow too and certainly knows his job.

Earl Percy was down to see us about a month ago. He is up at Orpington. This is his address (2109816 CAMC Ontario Military Hospital, Orpington.) Well Earnie, I will be looking for a letter from you soon, this is a snap of me and Jim Symon.

Well Earnie be good to yourself, from your old friend,
Jim Thompson, D. Co. 160th Bn
