Site Name Kincardine Lighthouse (rear range light)

Description The main Kincardine lighthouse was built in 1880 (and first lit in 1881) at the inner end of the harbour. It acts as a rear range light to the pierhead range light. It consists of an octagonal wooden gently tapered tower atop a white wooden two-storey lightekeeper's house, built by William Kay on a stone foundation into the steep hillside.

This colourized postcard features a picture of men fishing off a wharf bearing Kincardine's pierhead light tower. Kincardine rear range light / Kincardine lighthouse is visible in the background. The card bears a red typeset title: "Fishing at Kincardine, Ont., Canada". On the reverse is an illegible postmark however there is a handwritten date of 24/11/10. A handwritten message is addressed to Miss Louise Stewart, 417 Barton St. E., Hamilton, Ont. This "Private Post Card" features an image of a Kincardine Lighthouse scene. A woman is standing on a wharf in front of Kincardine lighthouse. She is dressed in a long skirt and puffed sleeved blouse and she is holding an umbrella. Huron Terrace Bridge is located in the background. The card bears the title in black typeset: "Lighthouse, Kincardine, Ont." On the reverse are two illegible postmarks which bear a partial date of AU 17 [19--]; one is from Londesboro and the other is Kincardine Ont. The handwritten message is addressed to Mrs. J. A.
