Description

Pocket memorandum book, presumably belonging to William Walter Dickison and documenting his farm activities at his farm on Lot 13, Concession 13, Carrick Township, Ontario.

The front cover includes a calendar for July 1894 to June 1895, while the back cover contains an advertisement for "Burdock Blood Bitters" and indicates the book was published by T. Milburn & Co., [Toronto], Ont.

Throughout the book, printed advertisements and facts about numerous medical conditions are featured opposite and below handwritten memoranda entries. Amongst advertisements are those for: Dr. Fowler's Extract Wild Strawberry, Milburn's Cod Liver Oil Emulsion, Hagyard's Yellow Oil, Hagyard's Pectoral Balsam, Roscoe's Hair Reviver, Freeman's Anthelmintic Worm Powders, and Dr. Wood's Norway Pine Syrup. Amongst the medical conditions are: impure or bad blood, dyspepsia, constipation, biliousness or liver complaint, scrofula, skin diseases, and rheumatism.

Also included are a postal guide and a life expectancy guide.

While the book template is in English, there are handwritten entries in German (William Walter's wife, Elizabeth (Sachs) Dickison, was German).
