Description |
This black book with a red spine consists of minutes from the Paisley Co-operative. There is a sticker on the front cover which reads "Paisey Co-operative / 1947". Embossed on the front of the book in gold it reads "Record / No.560". Attached to the front page is a note about a loan transfer dated March 11, 1957. The first entry in the book is dated August 23, 1947 and records minutes from the "Third Annual Meeting of the / Paisley Co-operative Association". The annual minutes for the years 1948-1960 follow. After the 1960 annual meeting minutes is an entry for a "general member meeting" dated November 22, 1960 which discusses the merger with Port Elgin Co-operative. Attached to the next page is a pamphlet titled "Notice of Special Meeting / of Members" for the Paisley Co-operative dated May 13, 1961. There are three loose pages which have been kept in the book titled "Being a by-law to amend the general by-laws of / Paisley Co-operative Association" and dated July 26, 1954. 1 envelope containing a letter from S.F. Ballachey / Dry Goods / Merchant" dated March 28, 1959. |

James W. Powers (Jim) collected this item. He actively farmed until 1948. He was Fieldman for the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. He participated in the organization of groups including the Hog Producers and Cream Producers Marketing Boards and the Co-operative Medical Services Plan. He was also involved in initiating Co-op Insurance for farmers. He took an active interest in community affairs and conservation practices. Jim represented Greenock Township on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and chairman of the International Plowing Match. |
