Description |
These checkbooks were used by the Tiverton Junior Farmers. The first checkbook is grey with blue printing on the front which reads "The Royal Bank of Canada". The red checks have "Hanover, Ont" written on them. The checkbook pages are all intact and blank. The second checkbook is green and reads "The Province of Ontario Savings Office". The checks are green and have "Walkerton, Ont." printed on them. The particular pages at the front of the book have entries dated between April 29, 1969 and April 23, 1970. The "particulars" listed include membership fees, wedding gifts, interest, and office supplies. |
Provenance |
James W. Powers (Jim) collected this item. He actively farmed until 1948. He was Fieldman for the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. He participated in the organization of groups including the Hog Producers and Cream Producers Marketing Boards and the Co-operative Medical Services Plan. He was also involved in initiating Co-op Insurance for farmers. He took an active interest in community affairs and conservation practices. Jim represented Greenock Township on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and chairman of the International Plowing Match. |
