The Southampton Baptist Church was first established as a Methodist Church in 1876. It converted to the Baptist organization in January 1908. It served Southampton until November 15, 1984 when its congregation dispersed to other churces in the surrounding communities. The property was sold in 1988 to 605008 Ontario Inc. In December 1996, the Lutheran Organization purchased the property. |

When the Southampton Baptist Church ceased to operate in 1984, this item went to reside in the possession of the Community Baptist Church, Port Elgin. Seven or eight years later, the donor took it into his possession in order to restore it to an acceptable condition. He donated it to the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Center in 2003. |
