Description

This scrapbook contains newspaper clippings on a national, provincial, and local level. Includes Concerned Farm Women newsletters and the occasional note and memo. Contains numerous farm and financial issues; Bill Wolfe of Dobbinton; Ron Oslwald elected president of Canain Cattleman; "Third of Bruce farmers 'technically bankrupt'; 'Concerned Farm Women founded in 1981', Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. Includes photographs of members including Catherine Meanwell and Susan Glover at the launch of their book 'To Have and to Hold'".

The earliest date in the scrapbook is January 29, 1985. This is a newsletter titled "Concerned Farm Women / box 457 / Chesley, Ontario / N0G 1L0 / January Newsletter". The latest date is December 4, 1985 on a newspaper clipping.

In the first folder there are loose records as well. These include:

1 domestic insurance receipt dated 1984

Provenance

James W. Powers (Jim) collected this item. He actively farmed until 1948. He was Fieldman for the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. He participated in the organization of groups including the Hog Producers and Cream Producers Marketing Boards and the Co-operative Medical Services Plan. He was also involved in initiating Co-op Insurance for farmers. He took an active interest in community affairs and conservation practices. Jim represented Greenock Township on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and chairman of the International Plowing Match.
