Technique: Realism The print is accompanied by an information sheet created by the artist including this description: "PAISLEY MILL SINCE 1885 A Pencil Rendering By James D. Paddon © 2023." This reproduction of an original pencil drawing is a depiction of the Stark's mill and residence located on the Teeswater River at Paisley, Ontario. James Stark was a hard-working and enterprising man previously a hotel owner and earlier mill operator. He had the vision and aspiration of bigger and better things. With the recently completed, Wellington, Gray [sic] and Bruce Railroad running through Paisley he undertook the building of a massive five story grist mill with attached, four-story elevator and storage building. Utilizing progressive methods he installed turbines rather than water wheel to drive the power to a steel roller system as opposed to traditional grinding stones. With such a high level of production, efficiency and storage in combination with local transportation, the newly named Paisley City Roller Mills entered the international market with exports to Great Britain and the Middle East. One of Canada's premier mills of its day. James Paddon" |
Provenance |
The limited edition reproduction print is from the original pencil rendering titled "Paisley Mill Since 1885" by artist James Paddon. This rendering was inspired by a photograph in the BCM&CC collection.
