This folder contains newspaper clippings and manuscripts for Paisley, Pinkerton, Teeswater from 1893 to 1994. The contents include: PAISLEY Manuscript, handwritten, 5 pp. Untitled, possibly by "J.N. Yancy". A history of Paisley, starting "About the middle of the 19th century Samuel T. Rowe" and ending "the present population is 1176 ..." List of reeves from 1874 to 1948. Manuscript, typed, 8 pp., "History of the Village of Paisley, 1907 to 1950", by W.S. Forrester. 1966 - Simon Orchard had faith in dream of farm site and sailed away on raft to found Paisley. 1966 - Built around water mill, visited by saint, origin of name of Paisley, Scotland, unknown. [history of Paisley, Scotland] 1980 - "75 years ago". First automobile in Paisley, 1905; cattle market. Death of Mr. Cheves of Paisley, born 1835. 1968 - Valentine and Brockie families of Paisley. Bruce McKenzie, publisher and editor of the Paisley Advocate. 1974 - 70 years ago: Death of Donald McNeill, 73, Dunblane mail carrier, by a kick from a horse. 1974 - [photo] Samuel Thomas Rowe and his second wife, Mary Ann Orchard. Paisley Centennial celebration. 1974 - [photo] Paisley's third public school, destoryed by fire in 1914. "Bruce County Historical Society Engages Historian" Norman McLeod to write volume two of the county history. 1965 - "Bruce County Museum receives Speaker's chair occupied by early Paisleyite" and "Historic chair donated to museum". Chair used by Donald Sinclair in Ontario Legislature. 1969 - "Bruce Historical Society one of most highly rated by provincial body", the Ontario Historical Society. 1994 - "The Teeswater bank job", robbery in 1897. |
