Admin/Biographical History |
Catherine Elizabeth Haug was born in Saugeen on January 25, 1874 to Mennotite parents Daniel Haug and Mary Ann Adolph, both originally from Waterloo. Catherine was one of seven children. She married Gilbert Mclaughlin of Elderslie Township, Bruce County, on January 21, 1903 and the couple lived on the Mclaughlin family farm in Elderslie. On Christmas day the same year the couple welcomed a daughter Olive Christina. Three years later the couple welcomed a second daughter Ethel Adelaide. Gilbert became sick in 1918 and moved the family to Scone where, on August 11, 1922, Gilbert passed away. After the death of her husband, Catherine continued to live in Scone and frequently visited her two daughters in Toronto. Catherine worked as a dressmaker and was very active in multiple churches later in life. Catherine passed away on August 26, 1953 and was buried in Gillies Hill, Salem Presbyterian Cemetery, Salem on Concession 10 in Elderslie Township. She shares a headstone with her daughter Olive. |
