Description |
A limited edition reproduction print, #5/330, of an original acrylic painting by artist James Paddon, on 100% rag cotton paper. The print image depicts a farm scene, with a field and round hay bales in the foreground; a red barn, field with farm machinery, and yellow brick farmhouse in the middle ground; and trees, hills, red agricultural buildings, and blue sky in the background. The artist marked the original painting in the bottom left corner border with "© J.D. Paddon 2025." Print #5/330 is indicated on the bottom left white border of the paper. The lower centre border bears the title "Farms" (including quotation marks). The artist signed the print in the bottom right border corner "J. Paddon". The print is accompanied by an information sheet created by the artist indicating that the painting was "Inspired by the beauty of the Saugeen River Valley, Bruce County, Ontario on a bright summer day during wheat harvest. An example of what mixed farming buildings looked like in earlier times in combination with modern dairy farms and equipment today." "The painting is a dedication to the memory of the artist's great, great grandfather Neil Cassidy who came to Saugeen Township during settlement in the early 1850s." An additional five paragraphs contain information about Neil Cassidy and his experience travelling to, and working in, Saugeen Township. |
Provenance |
James Paddon's drawings and paintings have a connection to Bruce County through personal stories and recognizable landmarks. He likes to reminisce and tell stories people can relate to. This scene was inspired by a his great-grandfather's home (285 Sideroad 18 & 19 Saugeen Township - legal description: Concession 3, part lot 18), landscape in the Saugeen Shores and Arran-Elderslie area. The house itself was painted almost identical to the way it appears in 2025, with the exception of some modifications to trim. Other parts of the painting were inspired by other farms and landscapes in the Bruce County area. |
