Description |
These books contain minutes pertaining to the Grey Bruce Consumers Co-operative. The first book has a black cover. The first entry in the book reads "Our first board meeting of the / Grey Bruce Consumers Co-op, Live / Stock Branch" and dated July 7, 1948. The last entry is dated April 7, 1956. There is a note attached to the back cover "Re excerpt from annual / meeting of the Grey Bruce consumers Co-operative / held on Nov 27th 1959". The second book is larger and has a black cover. The first entry is titled "24th Annual meeting / Grey-Bruce Consumers Co-operative Ass'n. / November 28th, 1963" and the last entry reads "The annual meeting of the Chelsey, Elmwood Branch of the U.C.O. was / held the evening of Jan 18/67". Tucked inside the book is a "memorandum of agreement" dated May 19, 1965. Four pages titled "Directors report / History of Grey Bruce Consumers Co-operative" Written in pencil beside the title it reads "Prepared for Elmwood / Mill opening 1960". Two pages titled "Annual Report 1967". |
Provenance |
James W. Powers (Jim) collected this item. He actively farmed until 1948. He was Fieldman for the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. He participated in the organization of groups including the Hog Producers and Cream Producers Marketing Boards and the Co-operative Medical Services Plan. He was also involved in initiating Co-op Insurance for farmers. He took an active interest in community affairs and conservation practices. Jim represented Greenock Township on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and chairman of the International Plowing Match. |
