This folder consists of 12 letters written to Robert and Hannah "Jemima" Leeder in England from friends and family. Most letters are dated between 1834 and 1852—prior to their emigrating to Canada in 1854. A few letters are undated. Several letters are addressed to or from Cossey Mill near Norwich and Redenhall. Letters include: - Letter from February 1834, written to Robert from [Rich. M?], mentioning "the circumstances of awkward times," the sale of Robert's father's Rushmore Farm, Robert and Hannah's wedding, the success of Robert's brother Edmund, and an update on his own family and employment; - Congratulatory letter from February 1835, written to Jemima from her friend E.W. and concerning the birth of her son, presumably Nathaniel Edward Leeder (Sr.); - Letter from March 1837, written to Jemima from Ed [Hickman?] during her illness; - Two letters from September and October 1841, written to Jemima from her mother Hannah Parker, concerning plans for Jemima to stay with her parents to recover from her illness; - Three letters from October and November 1841, written to Robert from Hannah Parker, updating him on Jemima and her health, as well as the children; - Letter from January 1852, written to Robert from [Char.?], concerning a man of the McCleans of Bixley; - Undated and unsigned letter to Miss Parker, concerning a "tablet affectionately decorated by young persons in this congregation to the memory of Rev. Ed [Hickman?]"; - Undated note to a "[Mrs. Turner?] from her friend Nath. Parker, Miss E.C. Parker, Redenhall" and listing the names of several Parker family members; and - Letter from May 13th of an unknown year, written to Jemima and Robert from a brother, wishing them happiness. |
