Description |
This Certificate of Service in the Great European War was presented to the Private John Stanley Finlayson family after he was killed in action on the August 30, 1918 in Arras, France. His photograph is taped to the certificate, such that it shows through the oval opening above the caption "He served his country". The colourful certificate includes images of a portrait of King George V, battleship, mounted soldier, beaver, rifles, swords and field guns. Information inscribed on the Certificate includes "Pte. John S. Finlayson. Enlisted at Kincardine Ont. Feb. 16, 1916. In 160th Bruce Battalion C.E.F. Inscribed on the back of the photograph "John Stanley Finlayson. Killed in Action at Arras, France on Aug. 30, 1918". |
