Description |
These reports consist of information from forum meetings. The instructions on the front cover instruct the users how to fill out the original and carbon copies of the reports. The original copies are to be sent to the "Provincial Farm Forum Society". The addresses for the provincial society are on the back cover. All four booklets are from the "7th line Amabel" forum. The covers of each booklet are titled "Forum / Findings" and at the bottom read "Produced by / National Farm Radio Forum / 409 Huron Street, Toronto". The first book does not have the name of the forum on the front, instead the secretary has written their name in the blank space. The first page is dated December 7, 1953 and the last page that has been used is dated March 15, 1954. There are several blank pages at the back of the booklet. There is a loose note in the book which is discussing the "Farm Radio / Forum material / 'Guides' ". The second book has both the name of the secretary and the name of the forum written on the front cover. The first entry is dated November 15, 1954 and the last entry is dated March 19, 1956. The third book has "Seventh line Forum" written on the front in pencil. The first entry is dated October 5, 1956 and the last entry is dated March 18, 1957. The fourth book has "7th line Amabel" written in blue pen on the front cover. The first entry is dated November 4, 1957 and the last one is dated March 17, 1958. There are several blank pages at the back of the book. |

James W. Powers (Jim) collected this item. He actively farmed until 1948. He was Fieldman for the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. He participated in the organization of groups including the Hog Producers and Cream Producers Marketing Boards and the Co-operative Medical Services Plan. He was also involved in initiating Co-op Insurance for farmers. He took an active interest in community affairs and conservation practices. Jim represented Greenock Township on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and chairman of the International Plowing Match. |
