Part of series 2 of the James and Elizabeth Burgess family fonds, this is one of nine diaries written Elizabeth Oliver Burgess, born June 14, 1896, son of Christina Thompson Rowand and William Burgess of Port Elgin, Bruce County, Ontario. The diary generally contains entries for every day from July 19, 1915 - April 12, 1917 Topics covered include: - Agriculture and farming, including mention of many chores around the house and farm, as well as work in the bush; - Burgoyne and Port Elgin Presbyterian Churches, including installation of pipe organ (Aug. 22, 1915); - Red Cross Society fundraising for First World War (Sept. 16, 1916, Jan. 10, 1916); - Social activities including skating, C.E. meetings, literary society meetings and debates; - Illnesses suffered by family, including La Grippe and measles; - Weather and severe storm (Aug. 4, 1915); - Installation of Bell telephone, 1900 gravity washing-machine, and Empire cream separator Jan. 2, 1917. Installation of Bell Telephone in Geddes house (Mar. 6, 1917).
