This folder is part of series 2, file 7 (Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation related documents - Potawatomi among the Saugeen and Cape Croker). This folder contains documents photocopied chiefly from Public Archives Canada, including correspondence, reports or memoranda and census or annuity lists / rolls. Topics of the documents include "Iroquois Indians of Caughnawaga" and settlement with Chippewas of Saugeen, Cape Croker and/or north of Colpoy's Bay. Also includes "List of Chiefs and Warriors", 1838; and "Pay-List of Interest Distribution ... Chippewas of". LAC reference numbers indicate many were photocopied from RG 10 (Department of Indian Affairs). A few of the documents have been assigned document numbers: 219, 221, 2273, 2279. |

At the time this material was created and compiled by the donor, the department of the Government of Canada responsible for Canada's northern lands and territories was called "Department of Indian Affairs" (sometimes shortened to "Indian Affairs"). This entity was changed and renamed several times between 1966 and 2019 (in 2011, 2015, and 2017). On July 15, 2019, legislation came into effect dissolving "Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada" and establishing 2 new departments, "Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs [Canada]" (CIRNAC) and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).
