Description

This is an enlarged reproduction map showing two townships in Bruce County including Kinloss and Culross Townships, which were originally featured in the "Illustrated Historical Atlas of the Counties of Grey & Bruce Ont., Compiled, Drawn and Published from Personal Examinations and Surveys by H. Belden & Co., Toronto, 1880."

Each township map features different aspects as follows:

Kinloss Township:
The map features the township's concession and lot numbers, location of the town plot of Lucknow (without town lots numbered). Additional hamlets, villages, lakes and rivers are also identified. Select names are printed on several lots throughout the township. The locations of schools and churches are identified on the map through the use of church and school building icons. Post office, stores, and sawmills are also labelled. The Wellington, Grey and Bruce Railway line is located along the south of the map.

Culross Township:
The map features the township's concession and lot numbers, location of the town plots of Teeswater, Belmore, Formosa and Ambleside (without town lots numbered). Additional hamlets, villages, lakes and rivers are also identified. Select names are printed on several lots throughout the township. The locations of schools and churches are identified on the map through the use of church and school building icons. Post offices and sawmills are also labelled. The Toronto Grey and Bruce Railway line is located south of Teeswater on the map.

The reproduction map has been mounted on plywood.

This item is believed to have been created by the Bruce County Museum sometime before 2005 for use in Museum exhibits.
