This item is part of series 3, file 3 (historic documents - videos) of the Southampton Tennis Club fonds. This DVD features a video (digitized from 8 mm film) of a CKNX television broadcast of the Southampton Tennis Club ca. 1959 or 1960. During the broadcast, the interviewer speaks to Fawcett Warder, Ruth Warder, Mary Ellen Macaulay, Jane Joliffe and Derek Coleman about the membership, social activities (playing cards, snipe hunting, annual dance) and tennis lessons of the Southampton Tennis Club. The video includes tennis drills during junior member lessons, the practice board and views of the upper courts (Thompson St. and Gilbert Lane) area with surrounding houses. Students identified include Suzanne Stevenson and Jerry Burrows. Disc also includes horse racing, possibly at Victoria Park, Owen Sound and a swimming and diving competition in an outdoor pool, with Prime Minister John Diefenbaker presenting awards. |
