Description |
This green and brown certificate is titled "The United Farmers / Co-operative / Company, Limited". On either side of the title are black and white drawings of large buildings. In the top left corner it reads "-2- Shares", the number 2 is written in red. In the top right corner it reads "No 22011", the number is a stamp with red ink. Below the title it reads "This Certifies that - North Brant Farmers Club - is the registered owner / of - two - fully paid / non-assessable shares without nominal or par value of the Capital Stock of / The United Farmers Co-operative Company Limited / transferable on the books of the Company only in person or by attorney upon / surrender of this certificate properly endorsed. / In Witness Whereof the said Company caused this Certificate to be signed by its duly authorized / officers and to be sealed with the seal of the Company this 28th day of Feb. 1935". The dashes are written in red, the "North Brant Farmers Club" and the date are written in blue. The certificate is signed by the president and the secretary. There is no seal affixed to the certificate. |

James W. Powers (Jim) collected this item. He actively farmed until 1948. He was Fieldman for the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. He participated in the organization of groups including the Hog Producers and Cream Producers Marketing Boards and the Co-operative Medical Services Plan. He was also involved in initiating Co-op Insurance for farmers. He took an active interest in community affairs and conservation practices. Jim represented Greenock Township on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and chairman of the International Plowing Match. |
