Admin/Biographical History |
The Century Farm Sign project was initiated in 1964 by the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario (JFAO) to mark the 100th anniversary of Canada's confederation and the JFAO's 50th anniversary. The project was proposed by Don Lazenby who was inspired by Prince Edward Island's lead at designating farms that had direct descendants of the same family owning the farm for 100 consecutive years. In 1966, the JFAO began tracking down farms within their communities and by the end of the year more than 6,000 signs had been displayed. The centennial project was reinstated in 1974 and the project continues as of 2021. The JFAO offers 125, 150, 175 and 200 year add-on signs. |
