This folder contains photographs and newspaper clippings about the activities of the Bruce County Historical Society, from 1955 to 1982. Five black-and-white photographs show members of BCHS: 1955 - "Opening ceremony of Museum at Southampton", "Mrs. Dudgeon", "Dr. Morton of Southampton". Two men and a woman at an exterior doorway. 1960, winter - Standing, l-r: Bruce Krug, Harvey Palmateer, Dr. Frank Morton. Seated: Mrs. Jim McClure; Stuart Robertson, president; Mrs. George Downey. 1966 - "Annual dinner meeting, Oct. 27/66". L-r: "Harvey Linklater, president; Mrs. Jamieson Hunter, treas.; Hilda Downey, sec't.; Pharis Mathers, vice-president". "Kincardine Legion Hall". [This photo appears in a 1966 newspaper clipping.] "KN" inscription may signify Kincardine News. About 1969 - "Mr. Norman McLeod and Dame [ ]". "KN". Next meeting set for Oct. 28 at Walkerton. 1958, Jan. 26 - "Bruce Society receives gift" of $100 from Bruce County museum to start research into history. 1958, April - Log cabin moves to Bruce Museum. 1858 - "Fossils millions of years old presented to Bruce Museum" by George Bladen, Walkerton. 1960 - "New executive" for BCHS, 1960-61, at annual meeting in Wiarton; photograph of president Stuart Robertson, Harvey Palmateer, Mrs. George Downey. 1962, Aug. 30 - Program for unveiling of plaque to David Brown Milne in Paisley. 1962 -- Folder, "Bruce County Historical Museum" describing history and contents of the museum. 1962, Sept. 9 - Napkin, blue paper, with gold printing "Bruce County Historical Museum Picnic, September 9th, 1962". 1963, Sept. 25 - "Historical Society hears tale of LaSalle's ill-fated ship, the Griffon". At annual meeting, launch of Norman McLeod's "The History of Bruce County, 1907 to 1968". 1980, Nov. 5 - "Bruce County Historical Society honours four members" at annual meeting in Red Bay. 1982, Aug. - "Historical Society met at Lurgan" in August. The speaker at the September meeting in Wiarton was John Nadjiwon; a film on David Milne was shown by Jim Coyne. |
