Kincardine Remembers : 1945-1995 : Commemorative Edition to mark the 50th Anniversary of V.E. Day. A supplement to The News, May 3, 1995. "This special edition takes a look at life in Kincardine, on the frontlines, as well as in Holland during the war. The focus is on the victory in Europe (V.E. Day) and the final days of the war." (Editor's remarks) Through "A Soldier's Story", "Holland Revisited", "The Home Front", "A Tribute", "Ripley Remembers", "A Remembrance", "The Home Front", "War Is Over", the experiences of those who contributed to the war effort can be remembered and appreciated. Stories and photographs appear for many local heroes, and the names of the service men and women from Kincardine and Huron Township are listed in tribute. Remembrances from those who lived in Holland at the time of the war are recounted. Contributions on the home front included the manufacture of the Mosquito bomber at the Malcolm Furniture factory in Kincardine. Many local sponsoring businesses and organizations appear throughout the issue. |
