McClevis resigning his position of Chief of Police, Wiarton, joining the Ontario Provincial Police and being assigned to Hanover, (-004). - Letters to Mr. Otto McClevis from Commissioner Ontario Provincial Police in regards to his application to, probationary appointment and final permanent position with the Ontario Provincial Police, spanning April 20, 1928 to May 2, 1928, (-005, -006 and -007). - A number of newspaper articles where Constable Otto Clevis was involved in the apprehension those involved in making of moonshine, liquor theft and abortion, (-008, -009 and -010). - Letter of commendation from E. D. Gruetzner, Manager of Morlock Bros. Ltd. to Major General V. A. S. Williams, Commissioner, Ontario Provincial Police Re: service provided by Otto McClevis, dated August 20th, 1930, (-011 and -012 page3). - Memorandum to Constable Otto McClevis from Sargent for District Inspector recognizing the letter of commendation received from Morlock Bros. Ltd. and encouraging him to keep up the good work. Dated August 23,1930, (-012 page 1). - Letter from Commissioner of Police to E.D. Gruetzner, Manager of Morlock Bros. Ltd. thanking him for the letter of commendation he submitted re: Otto McClevis service. dated August 21, 1930, (-012 page 2). - Letter of appreciation from the (Rev.) H. J. Harwell, Secretary of The Bruce Beach Association to Major General V. A. S. Williams, Commissioner Provincial Police, re: the assistance provided by Otto McClevis in arresting, bringing to trial and the conviction of perpetrators of theft in several Bruce Beach Cottages, dated Sept 1938. This was followed by a letter back to H. J. Harwell from the Attorney General of Ontario, G. D. Conant, acknowledging the receipt of the above letter of commendation, dated October 6th, 1938, (-013 page1 and -013 page 2). - Letter of commendation from Victor A. S. Williams, Commissioner of Police For Ontario to The District Inspector, No. 3 District, Kitchener re: Provincial Constable McClevis' "excellent attention and devotion to duty", dated July 10, 1930. Followed by memorandum to Constable McClevis from Sargent, For District Inspector providing a copy of the above commendation and remarking that "This is a mighty fine achievement...", dated July 11, 1930, (-014 page 1 and -014 page 2). - Memorandum to Constable McClevis with a five dollar gratuity as received from Inspector F. E. Elliott, attached, in recognition of the excellent manner in which he carried out his duties at the Shriner's Convention, from the District Inspector, dated June 23,1930, (-015). - Letter to Mr. McClevis from a home one expressing his appreciation for his work in apprehending the culprits and recovering the goods stolen from his home. Dated October 21, 1931, (-016). - Memorandum to Constable Otto McClevis from William Stringer, Chief Inspector expressing his appreciation for "Your energetic efforts and good work.." in a police matter. Dated 18th February, 1933, (-017). - Letter to General Williams, Commissioner of Ontario Provincial Police from E. E. Rotharmel, Supt. of Agencies for assistance provided by Mr. McClevis in an insurance matter. Dated June 4, 1935, (-018). - Memorandum to Constable Otto McClevis from William Stringer, Chief Inspector congratulating on splendid work on a prompt arrest and encouraging him to keep up the good work. Dated 6th December, 1933, (-019). - Letter to General Williams, Provincial Police Headquarters from Bruce Produce Co. commending the "very smart work done by Officer McClevis" in records to a robbery at their plant. Also on the page are three photographs of three individuals identified on the page as "Tara Safe Robbers". Dated Aug. 15, 1939, (-020). - Two separate commendations to Provincial Constable O. McClevis for devotion to duty and exceptionally efficient and thorough manner he executed his duties on two separate occasions. (-021). - Three separate commendations to Provincial Constable O. McClevis in carrying out his duties on three separate occasions, from the commissioner of Police for Ontario. (-022). - A number of news paper articles and opinion pieces highlighting the accomplishments of Constable O. McClevis in the performance of his duties, (-023 and -024). - Numerous newspaper articles, July 28 1936, on the robbery of the Wiarton Brewery Warehouse by the "Campbell Gang", the ensuing chase, shoot out and capture of the perpetrators. Numerous photographs of armed police officers including Constable McClevis, bullet ridden cars and the perpetrators are included. Constable O. McClevis' role in the above is mentioned in the articles, (-025, -026, -027, -028, -029, -030, -031, -032, -033, -034 and -035). - Letter to W. H. Stringer Commissioner of Police for Ontario from E. W. Jarvis Assistant Director of Investigation, Canadian National Railways commending Constable Otto McClevis on his fine work in the apprehension and conviction of persons involved in robberies in Mildmay including a theft from the CN Walkerton toolhouse, dated November 18, 1943. This was followed by a memorandum to Constable O. McClevis, from the Sargent for District Inspector, providing him with a copy of the letter from the CN Railways, dated November 20, 1943. (-036 page 1 and -036 page 2). - Newspaper articles on the Cargill Bank Robbery in 1934 and Constable O. McClevis' role in apprehending some of those involved. Also included is a letter from a lawyer J. W. Griffiths thanking Mr. McLevis for not alarming himself or his wife, dated March 24, 1942, (-037 and -038). - Memorandum to Constable O. Mc Clevis from J. A. Stringer, Sergeant, for District Inspector, providing him with copies of letters from two merchants commending him on the work he performed in connection with recent robberies from their respective places of business, dated November 13, 1942. Letters from each merchant to the Commissioner of Ontario Provincial Police are included. (-039 page1, -039 page 2 and -039 page 3). - An opinion piece taken from a newspaper, identified as taken from "HUSH paper" and pasted onto Department of National Defence stationary. The stationary is identified as coming from Army District Recruiting Office and is dated Oct 21 1943. The opinion piece highlights the police work of Constable Otto McClevis. Also included is a photograph of Otto McClevis in police uniform, (-40). - Newspaper articles and pictures associated with the April 1, 1934 murder of Philip Stroh, (-041, -042 page 1, -042 page 2, -044 page 1, -044 page 2 and -044 page 3). - Pictures of stolen cars, all crashed, some with bullet holes and a picture of Otto McLevis and another police officer identified as Aubrey Stauffer standing beside a police car. Also included is a photograph of a man in a military uniform identified as Robert France, (-043, -045, -046). - Newspaper articles and pictures with regards to a largest posse (approximately 400 men) ever assembled in Bruce County searching for robbers of the Mildmay Post Office, (-048 and -049). - Mug shots of two people, Hubert Chapell and G. Dobbie as well as a copy the same opinion piece from (-04), (-050). - Numerous newspaper articles, dated 1945, regarding the appointment of Otto McClevis to Magistrate for the County of Bruce. (-051). - Small newspaper article outlining the presentation of a Certificate of Merit from the Ontario Police Commission to Magistrate Otto McClevis for his excellent record while performing his duties on the provincial police force. (-052). - Annotated aerial photograph of a water dam and a letter from Frank Donnelly, Q. C., Barrister to Otto McClevis, Police Magistrate expressing his amazement that Otto MCClevis was able to make two trips through the turbulent waters pictured on the photograph to effect the rescue of two men trapped on a boat on the dam. (-053, -054). - A letter from the St Paul's United Church minister Rev. G. W. Moore to Otto McClevis thanking him for his role in completing the repairs to the church basement, dated Thursday, May 20th, 1937. (-055). - Numerous newspaper articles and photographs outlining the rescue, and Otto McClevis role in the rescue, of two men, Irwin Lobsinger, Fire Chief and Joseph Jagelewski who were trapped on the power dam near Walkerton, in April of 1951. Also included is a personal, handwritten note from "Lobie" expressing his appreciation and thanks, dated May 2/51. (-056 through to -063, inclusive). - Two newspaper articles, one with regards to Magistrate Otto McClevis having a lacerated hand caused by a pike he caught while fishing and the second article describes Otto McClevis's role in apprehending a bank robber. (-064). - Numerous photographs of Otto McClevis dressed in a suit and tie attending formal functions. Some individual are identified on the photographs. (-065 through to -072 inclusive). - A letter from Rober E. King funeral director in Tavistock to Magistrate O. C. McClevis expressing his appreciation for his "high ideals of justice and fair play", dated January 5, 1964. (-073) - A hand written note to Magistrate O. C. McClevis from Miss Lenora Beswetherick, thanking him for his decision with regards a cruelty to animals case, dated May 20, 1963. Also included is a newspaper clipping on the same case. (-074). - A letter from a person (cannot decipher the signature) from Chepstow to Magistrate O. E. Mc Levis (sic) expressing their satisfaction in the manner in which he conducted his court proceedings, dated Nov 10th, 1964. (-075). - Personal handwritten letter to Magistrate O. P. McClevis from Helen Samella, a resident of Sauble Beach thanking him for his "just but stern" handling of cases of rowdiness in Sauble Beach, dated Aug 16th, 1965. (-076). - A personal handwritten letter from the Minister of St. Paul's Church, Mildmay Ontario (signature is illegible) thanking him and expressing his appreciation for his just decision on a specific case, dated May 15, 1963. (-077). - A letter from Percy G. Watt, from E. S. Watts & Sons, to Magistrate O. C. McClevis, expressing his thoughts on the fairness and reasonable attitude displayed by the Magistrate in dealing with young boys brought before him, dated Aug 25 1962. (-078). - Numerous newspaper articles from 1964 and 1965 outlining how Magistrate O. C. McClevis firmly handles liquor and drinking and driving cases in and around Sauble Beach. (-079 and -080). - A letter from the Reverend Ernest E. Baskier of the Knox United Church of Owen Sound to Magistrate O. C. McClevis congratulating for the courage he demonstrated by imposing a heavy fine and removal driving privileges on an individual convicted for driving infractions in the Sauble Beach area, dated September, 16 1964. (-081). - A letter from Loren G. Zimmerman a teacher from Dayton, Ohio to Magistrate O. H. (sic) McClevis who expressed his support for the manner in which the Magistrate handed out sentences, dated 28th August, 1968. (-082). - A letter from the President of the South Sauble Ratepayer's Association, Mrs. V. Tennant, on their behalf to Magistrate O. C. McClevis thanking him for way he kept law and order at the beach over the past summer, dated September 25, 1968. (-083). - A letter from the Staff Inspector (signature illegible) for the Commissioner of Police Ontario, to W. J. Freeman with regards to an address made to Men's Organization by Constable O. McClevis expressing the appreciation Head Office has for the very fine representative Constable O. McClevis is for the Force, dated May 19, 1937. (-084). - Two closed cards and a letter to Provincial Officer McClevis from Brock Dtozenroth expressing appreciation for his sense of justice expressed during a trial involving Dtozenroth, dated Dec 20 1944. (-085 Cards closed). - The two cards opened up, one from Mr and Mrs Ellis on the leniency showed to their son, undated, one from Allie Scarrow to Mrs. McClevis expressing support for her husband, dated Sep 1, 1966 also shown is the letter from Brock Dtozenroth. (-085 Cards open). - A note from Annis Eidth to Judge McClevis wishing him good luck and the best of everything and a hand written note from the Secretary Treasurer South Sauble Beach Association, Mrs. R. Ceasar, on their behalf to Mr. O. McClevis thanking him for the way he kept peace and order on the beach over the past summer, dated September 6, 1966. (-086) - A letter, dated Aug. 18, 1969, from Ross M. Whicher, M. P. Bruce County, to Judge Otto McClevis with an enclosed copy of a hand written letter (-089) that was written to R. Whicher by Mrs Francis Marr, of Lions Head. The letter from Marr commended Judge McClevis for being "kind, just, and efficient". R. Whicher in his letter to McClevis indicated that he felt the same as Marr and also said that Mc Clevis had "done a good job for our area". (-087 and -089). - A letter from Eric Silk, the Commissioner, Ontario Provincial Police to Judge O. C. McClevis expressing his appreciation for his thoughtful advice regarding Constable Barker. He also referred to Mrs McClevis making a good recovery. The letter was dated October, 24th, 1969. (-088). - A personal letter from Jean V. Taylor and Wynne Berry to Magistrate McClevis thanking him for being fair and just in the treatment of their grandson/son, Jimmy Berry, dated Oct. 31st, 1967. - Two undated newspaper, opinion piece, clippings expressing support for Magistrate Otto McClevis. Although the authors of the pieces are not indicated in the clippings two cards are with the clippings, one from the Ontario Legislature, signature illegible, and one from John Whitty, Assistant Commissioner, Ontario Provincial Police. (-091). - Two undated newspaper articles indicating support for Otto McClevis, one for his role as police officer and one as a Magistrate. Also a card from the Hanover Freemason Lodge No. 432. (-092). - Two newspaper articles highlighting Magistrate Otto McClevis' thoughts on the causes of juvenile deliquency, hand dated 2 May 1963 and 13 Feb 1964, and one article describing Magistrate Otto McClevis saving a six year old boy from strangulation, dated 26 Apr 1962. (093). - Undated newspaper article on Magistrate O. C. McClevis' use of steep fines to control the area beaches. Also a newspaper photograph of forty-four judges and magistrates on a visit to Camp Bison, Burwash Farm. (-094). - A personal letter from Hubert Cheshire of Wiarton to Judge O. McClevis commending him on his court house remarks, and also offering advice on preparing a stable for horses, the letter is dated Dec 19, 1969. Also included is newspaper article on Judge and Mrs. O. McClevis celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary. (-095). - Letter from O. C. McClevis to A. A. Russell, Deputy Minister, Department of Justice, dated December 23rd, 1970, informing him of his recent illness and tendering his resignation effective May 20th, 1971. (-096). - Letter from A. A. Russell, Assistant Deputy Minister of Justice to O. C. McClevis thanking him for his service and wishing both him and his wife's health will improve and he will enjoy his retirement, dated January 13, 1971. (-097). - Letter from W. S. Chalmers, Director, Member Services, Dominion Automobile Association to Judge Otto McClevis congratulating him on his appointment as Provincial Judge, dated December 18, 1968. (-098). - Letter from Rex E. Humbard, TV Pastor, Cathedral of Tomorrow, to O. C. McClevis, thanking him for becoming a Sustaining Television Sponsor, dated November 21, 1969. - Owen Sound Sun Times newspaper pictures showing Otto McClevis present at the opening of a new Bruce County Hospital wing, dated Dec. 10, 1959. (-100 Page 1 and -100 Page 2). - Letter from George R. Houlding, Regional Campaign Chairman for the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society welcoming Judge O. McClevis to the position of Honourary Chairman, dated June 23, 1969.
