Description |
This booklet gives the history of the Bruce County Tartan. The suggestion for a tartan was first made by Dr. J.F. Morton of Southampton, Ontario, a former Warden of the County. The Bruce County Women's Institute Rally held in Park Head in October 1962 sponsored the undertaking as a centennial project. In January 1963 they reported to council and at their fall session in October, County Council passed a By-law to establish a Bruce County Tartan Committee. The Bruce County Tartan and Coat of Arms was approved and registered in Edinburgh on 19 January 1965, and subsequently registered in Canada with letters of patent in 1966. |
