This volume is part of series 2 (Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation related documents), file 1 (Saugeen Nawash claims). The volume now consists of three folders (marked A2010.099.1002a-c), containing documents numbered intermittently from 611 - 865, chiefly copied from microfilm and resources held at the National Archives of Canada (now Library and Archives Canada), including material from NAC's reference number RG 10 (including parts of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development fonds). The documents concern tribes of the Ojibway Nation, including Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. Topics addressed in the documents include: admission of certain people into Cape Croker band, treaties, surrenders and rights to land and fish in what is now Grey and Bruce Counties, as well as the Saugeen Ojibway Nation Territories and Port Credit. Post-it notes on the documents contain notes handwritten by Dr. Peter Schmalz. Includes copies of Superintendent of Indian Affairs report, government reports, correspondence between Department of Indian Affairs and various bands, petitions and claims, including text of "Claim of the Pottawatomie Indians of Wisconsin now in Canada" (1928). |
