This folder contains correspondence between the United Co-operatives of Ontario and various other parties. 15 letters dated between December 12, 1955 and January 15, 1962 between the U.C.O. and the Grey-Bruce branch members. These letters are regarding, products, financial records, policies, annual meetings, and the Agreement Managers' Conference. 3 Bulletins "prepared and distributed by the Co-operative Union of Ontario" dated October 1955. 3 reports, the first titled "report of the board of directors" dated August 31, 1955. The second titled "United Co-operatives of Ontario / Financial Statement / Year ended September 30, 1957". The third report titled "minutes of the eleventh annual meeting of / the Co-operative Union of Ontario" dated "October 1st". 2 United Co-operatives of Ontario Bulletins dated October 24, 1957 and December 19, 1957. 8 pages of handwritten notes. Two are undated. The other six pages are dated December 3 and 4, 1991. 4 pages of "Employee questionnaires" dated October 20, 1956. 5 pages of a management agreement. The agreement is blank. 1 packet of paper titled "Correspondence course / Co-op - sales" dated January 11, 1955. Written in pink across the title is "Sample / Topic". 2 newsletters, the first printed on two pink pages and titled "Co-operative directors advisory committee / on / education and organization" dated October 11, 1955. The second on blue paper titled "Neighbour-to-neighbour canvass / by / co-op directors and other leading members / in Ontario's big push on co-op feed" dated October 17, 1955. 1 plan for a "checkout / cigarette / dispenser" dated October 30, 1952. 4 pages of general correspondence. The first is titled "Special expenditure authorization request form" dated October 21, 1957 from the Port Elgin Co-operative. The second is titled "For your convince and savings" dated September 13, 1956. A page numbered "30" regarding the "purchase by the United Co-operatives of Ontario of the / Land-O-Lanark Creamery". The fourth titled "background" and mentions a meeting on "September 5, 1991". 2 newspaper clippings, the first titled "united Co-operative plans merger" from the Kitchener-Waterloo record dated August 10, 1991. In blue pen on the top of the clipping it reads "50th anniversary of U.C.O. / 1964", and the second titled "Celebrate fortieth anniversary / of Co-operative Buying Club" from the Hanover Port dated June 11, 1954. 3 window decals. One is black and yellow and reads "Co-op / Member". Two are gold with two green trees and reads "Co-op" and accompanied by a paper titled "The Co-operative Emblem". |
Provenance |
James W. Powers (Jim) collected this item. He actively farmed until 1948. He was Fieldman for the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. He participated in the organization of groups including the Hog Producers and Cream Producers Marketing Boards and the Co-operative Medical Services Plan. He was also involved in initiating Co-op Insurance for farmers. He took an active interest in community affairs and conservation practices. Jim represented Greenock Township on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and chairman of the International Plowing Match. |
