Description |
This minute book has a black cover with gold lettering on the front cover that reads "MSS". On the inside cover it reads "James Powers / 2004". The first page is dated October 30, 1931 and the first sentence reads "Meeting of North Riding of Bruce / U.F.O. annual convention in / Library Hall" above the date it reads United Farmers / of Ontario" with an arrow pointing at "U.F.O." a few lines below, and "Port Elgin". The final meeting entry is dated October 28, 1938. At the back of the book are pages titled "receipts" and "expenditures" for the years 1931-1939. 6 loose pages of minute meetings dated October 27, 1939. 1 loose page labeled "list of voting / in log marketing vote / July 25, 1958" 3 loose notes. One poem titled "It is Enough for Me" by Kenneth Robinson, one page of minutes for the Saugeen County Sister's Club, and one report titled "Lakeside U.F.O. Report, Kincardine". |

James W. Powers (Jim) collected this item. He actively farmed until 1948. He was Fieldman for the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. He participated in the organization of groups including the Hog Producers and Cream Producers Marketing Boards and the Co-operative Medical Services Plan. He was also involved in initiating Co-op Insurance for farmers. He took an active interest in community affairs and conservation practices. Jim represented Greenock Township on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and chairman of the International Plowing Match. |
