This microfilm, originally created by The Ontario Department of Public Records and Archives in 1968, contains issues of The Wiarton Echo newspaper from 1879 - July 1881, with some issues missing. The index of the microfilm indicates "Source - Messrs. Limpert & Smiley.

Original inventory notes of the donor, Dr. Peter S. Schmalz, indicate "Wiarton Echo. (4th July, 1879- 7 February, 1895) 12 Reels. [Contains a considerable number of articles related to Cape Croker Reserve and pioneer life in general.]"
