Description |
From opening message by Richard Kistabish: In July of 1998, Aboriginal people who experienced life in a residential school gathered in Squamish, B.C. and from this meeting the Aboriginal Healing Foundation (AHF) was created. In turn, the Legacy of Hope Foundation was established to address the long-term implications of the damage done to Aboriginal children and their families by many of the residential schools. The primary objective of the work of the AHF is to promote awareness among the Canadian public about residential schools and try to help them to understand the ripple effect those schools have had on Aboriginal life. But equally important, is the goal of bringing about reconciliation between generations of Aboriginal people, and between Aboriginal people and non-Aboriginal Canadians. This booklet highlights the exhibition, "Where Are The Children? Healing the Legacy of the Residential Schools" that was developed from funds raised through the Foundation. |
