Description |
This volume is part of series 2 (Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation related documents), file 1 (Saugeen Nawash claims). The volume now consists two folders (labelled A2010.099.1006a-b) containing documents numbered intermittently from 1805-2414, copied from microfilm and resources held at the National Archives of Canada (now Library and Archives Canada), including material chiefly from NAC's reference number RG 10 (including parts of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development fonds) The documents concern tribes of the Ojibway Nation, including Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. Includes copies of correspondence between Department of Indian Affairs and various bands, as well as reports in the Journals of the Legislative Assembly Appendix T (#2506). The topic of focus of many of the documents appears to be land issues and the location of First Nations people and white settlements. The Journals of the Legislative Assembly, Appendix T, include accounts, "Appendix No. 32 - Evidence of Rev. B. Slight respecting ... the Mississaugas or Chippawas of the Credit," "Appendix No. 35 - Evidence of Rev. C. Brought respecting the Indians in the neighbourhood of Lakes Huron and Simcoe, and also Manitoulin," and Appendix No. 26 "Indian Office, October 1842" re: fisheries. Many documents have yellow post-it notes containing handwritten notes made by Dr. Schmalz. |
