This item is a diploma that was "Awarded by the Western Fair Association of the City of London, Canada to John Guyer Esq. [of] Port Elgin for 5 best Cheese Boxes for Shipping Purposes at their Annual Fair Sept 9th to 18th, 1897." The diploma is signed by the fair's Secretary and President. The back of the diploma has "Judges Remarks" handwritten in ink, which reads "Boxes too light - wood should be thicker and the Band on bottom of box should be deep as one on lid, [sig.?] A[T?]M Laren." The diploma bears the golden seal of the Western Fair Association. It is decorated with images of livestock, produce, farmers, and farm equipment, and is surrounded by a decorative boards. |
