This scrapbook cover depicts a forest in the autumn with three farmers on horseback herding cows across a stream. In the top right corner in black marker it reads "Oct - Nov / 1981". The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings of articles, comics, and pictures, as well as, magazine clippings. The earliest newspaper clipping is dated October 1, 1981. The last newspaper clipping is dated November 17, 1981. In the back of the book are two full newspaper pages both dated November 13, 1981. |

James W. Powers (Jim) collected this item. He actively farmed until 1948. He was Fieldman for the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. He participated in the organization of groups including the Hog Producers and Cream Producers Marketing Boards and the Co-operative Medical Services Plan. He was also involved in initiating Co-op Insurance for farmers. He took an active interest in community affairs and conservation practices. Jim represented Greenock Township on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and chairman of the International Plowing Match. |
