The Farmers Allied Meat Enterprises was a short lived processing co-operative during the early 1960s which was led by Charles McInnis. After purchasing Fearman's packing plant in 1964, FAME ran into further financial issues and the ultimately led to the resignation of Charlie McInnis on December 3, 1964. Even under the new leadership of Clayton Fry and then Melvin Becker, however, FAME could not salvage the loss and declared bankruptcy in March 1966. https://www.ontariopork.on.ca/About-Us/History https://www.farms.com/reflections-on-farm-and-food-history/lives-lived-archive/charles-mcinnis "A Record of Achievement" by James W. Powers pages 149-150 (AX2004.0902) James W. Powers (Jim) collected these records. He actively farmed until 1948. He was Fieldman for the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture. He participated in the organization of groups including the Hog Producers and Cream Producers Marketing Boards and the Co-operative Medical Services Plan. He was also involved in initiating Co-op Insurance for farmers. He took an active interest in community affairs and conservation practices. Jim represented Greenock Township on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for 20 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and chairman of the International Plowing Match. |
