Occupation |
Robert Bruce emigrated from Scotland to work the Bruce Mines on the north shore of Lake Huron. He later moved to Keppel Township, just east of Oxenden and gave his name to Bruce's Caves. He was sometimes known as the Hermit of Bruce's Caves due to his eccentricities and privacy. Many stories were told of him, but most are unsubstantiated as he did not talk about himself. |
Places |
Robert Bruce lived in a small log cabin on Lot 13, Concession 25, Keppel Township. He purchased land that thereafter became known as "Bruce's Caves" around 1875. That property passed to C.A. and Jane Loney through the Estate of Robert Bruce in 1908. |
