He followed the carpentering trade and later entered the insurance business, which he pursued until his retirement in or around 1935. He also served some years on town council, two years as reeve. He was a member of Loyal Orange Lodge No. 2115 and Past Master of Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. No. 429. In politics, he was an ardent Conservative and in religion a staunch supporter of the United Church. |

He moved with his parents in 1856 to Bruce County, where they first settled at Arkwright. In 1873, he came to Port Elgin, residing at 411 Green St. W., and he followed the carpentering trade and later entered the insurance business, which he pursued till his retirement from active business in or around 1935. He was residing in Arran Township when married at Invermay in 1873. |
