The Fletts had a family of six children, James, John Arthur, Alexander, Helen (some census list Ellen), Elizabeth and Janet. Three other children - William, Amelia and David, died in chidlhood. |

James bought commercial property on Durham St. in Walkerton and built a block of buildings in which he ran a shoe and boot business. Flett expanded his buisiness in 1868. The 1871 census lists his profession as "shoemaker." His profession in the 1891 census is "farmer." |
Places |
James immigrated to Upper Canada in 1852. He first settled in Fonthill, Pelham Township, Welland County. James and Janet moved to Brant township ca. 1856 with the Muir family. He bought commercial property on Durham St. in Walkerton and built a block of buildings in which he ran a shoe and boot business. In 1962, he received the Crown Patent for Con. 8, lots 20 and 21 NDR, Brant Township. He was building a house at 524 Colborne Street. Walkerton for his retirement. He died before moving into the house; however, his widow later resided there. |
