Thomas enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expenditionary Force with his older brother George. He listed "Clerk" as his occupation on his attestation papers in January 1916. Upon his enlistment, he was assigned to Company C of the 160th Battalion. He later transferred to the 1st Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps and served in France beginning in August 1918. Private Kalbfleisch 651335 was discharged in 1919. After the war, Thomas married and moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, USA and raised a family. |
