Pearl McKelvie Paterson Kerr was a poet and author. Her writing career began after a near fatal accident in 1943. While recuperating from a broken neck, she began writing something humorous each day for the nurses to laugh at. She continued to write on the advice of her doctor, and went on to publish a number of poetry volumes. She also assisted on the farm that she and her husband ran on the Elderslie-Brant townline. She also contributed to her community through involvement in Geneva Presbyterian Church, Chesley Women's Institute, Bruce County Historical Society and the Chesley Senior Citizen's Club. |

Pear was born in Wroxeter, Huron County in 1895. She moved with her family to Chesley around 1903 when she was eight. After she married THomas Paterson, they farmed on the Elderslie-Brant townline until retiring to Chesley in the late 1940s. |
