Babe, a labourer, originally enlisted with the 2nd Perth Regiment (A550602) on August 8, 1940 in Walkerton, Ontario. He was transferred to the 2/97th Field Battery (Reserve Force) on March 31, 1941. He transferred to non-effective strength on May 1. 1942. In the Second World War, "Babe" Phillips served in the Royal Canadian Regiment in North Africa and Europe as a member of the 1st Division, Tactical #55, Scout Platoon, "Red Patch Devils". He attained the rank of Sergeant. Babe was head of Maintenance and was an ambulance attendant at Chesley Memorial Hospital for 30 years. |
