John W. Ransbury was born on November 12, 1903 in Tobermory, Ontario. On July 22, 1941, John enlisted in the Air Force. During World War II, he served the Marine Division-Air Sea Rescue in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. John was injured and received a medical discharge on April 26, 1944. John received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-45 War Medal. John returned to Tobermory and he operated the Ransbury Fish Company. Later, John and his brother built one of the first motels in Tobermory along with a Guide Boat for fishing tours. John was a member of the Tobermory Legion 290 and passed away in July of 1973. |
