On November 9, 1916, John Angus "Jack" Uhrig was born in Southampton, Ontario. During World War II, Jack enlisted with the 4th. Canadian Anti-Tank Regiment. He enlisted on April 4, 1941 and served in Canada, United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe. Jack was discharged from the Army on December 5, 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, Italy Star and France and Germany Star. Jack returned to Southampton and married Eleanor Storrey and had five children. He worked at the Hepworth Furniture Factory until it closed and then started his own furniture refinishing business. Jack was a town councillor and a member of the Southampton Legion Branch 155. Jack passed away in Southampton on February 17, 1988 in his seventy-second year. |
