| Description | The Country Sisters Club was established in late 1919 by women in the vicinity of S.S. #1, Saugeen Township. The Club was formed as part of the United Farm Women of Ontario, a women's auxiliary to the United Farmers of Ontario, and was assigned the name "U.F.W.O. Country Sisters Club No. 1370A", as reflected in the 1934 minute book. The club name "Country Sisters" was chosen at the May 21, 1920 meeting. In October 1942, the club reorganized as the Country Sisters War Efforts Society, separate from the club. After the end of the Second World War, the club resumed the "Country Sisters" name. Commencing in the 1970s, programs and newspaper articles refer to the club by the name "Country Sisters Community Club". The Country Sisters Community Club provided rural women with an opportunity to meet socially and a forum for discussion about issues of importance to farmers, farm women and the rural community. Meetings were held, initially in member's homes, approximately once per month; less often during some winters. Commencing in the 1980s, meetings often took place at the Lawn Bowling Club House. The group's monthly meetings varied with speakers, worship, devotions, topical discussions and activities. The Club's Motto was: "I expect to pass this way but once. If, therefore, there is any good deed I can do, or any kindness I can show to any fellow-being, let me do it now; let me not defer nor neglect it; for I shall not pass this way again." The Club was very active during W.W. II, adopting a family in England and sending many parcels overseas. The Club also served the local community by contributing to the Hospital Auxiliary, donating items to the local school and donating time, items and funds to a variety of local organizations. To raise money for charitable organizations, the group held a variety of events and social activities, including card parties, picnics, quiltings and special speakers. An executive body governed the club. As of 2009, the club continued in existence. Sources: a) Country Sisters Community Club fonds, BCM&CC A2008.034 b) Saugeen History Hunters.
