The book recounts pioneer life and the many experiences of Rev. Joseph Henry Hilts (1819-1903) who joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1841 and became a circuit preacher in 1856. He started on the Garafraxa Circuit of Huron District in the Guelph Conference (Ontario). He served stations from Listowel to Thornbury, including Teeswater in Culross Township, Invermay and Kincardine, Bruce County. It specialized in camp meetings and extended indoor revivals. The appendix gives biographical information on 58 clergymen mentioned in this book and who served in Ontario. The original 1887 edition was "printed for the author by William Briggs", Toronto. |
