This book had its beginnings in a series of columns that the author wrote for the Shoreline Beacon newspaper. It is a revised version of the First Edition of Southampton Vignettes, with the first three chapters dealing with the early settlement of Southampton rewritten. This is a result of research done for a second book released also in 2015, "Heart of the Great Lakes: Lake Huron and the Saugeen to 1850" which uncovered many new historical facts. Vignettes include: 1. Before the founding 2. Metis heritage 3. The founding of Southampton 4. Alexander McNabb and the great 1854 land rush 5. Pioneers of the weather service 6. A village is born - Bridges fall 7. The river harbour: Shelter from the storm 8. The long and short of It (docks) 9. Excursion to the Isles 10. An ill wind that blew no good 11. In the heyday of the train 12. The great furniture makers 13. Saugeen mineral water company 14. William Knowles' dream of a summer resort [Breakers Hotel] 15. A town hall for all 16.
