Colour photograph of a 2 1/2 story brick historic home located at 343 Durham Market St, South, Kincardine. Note on reverse states "Summer 1971, One of the older homes in Kincardine, McLennan Funeral Home, Freda Jacob Picture". Additional Information slip states "Durham Market Square: Architecture Italianate. Features: square building, low pitch Mancard roof, has centre tower on main facade, very common to this style, windows round tops with decorative keystones, notice the beautiful veranda with Roman Ionic Colums. History: Built in the 1870's by "John Gentles as his home" [crossed out], handwritten note above "1880? Rooklidge - sold to John Gentles. It was then sold to a R.J. Stewart a lawyer in Kincardine. It was in this family till the Rogers Family bought it. The Rodgers family was involved with the Kincardine Newspaper Business namely the Kincardine News. It was sold to the MacLennans in 1960 for a funeral home. It was sold again in 1977 to Durham Market square Development for conversion to offices." Picture has been trimmed. |
