Description |
A cyanotype print showing five workers inside what is believed to be the Bowman & Zinkan Tannery, Southampton. Some of the men wear aprons and hold knives. They work at an elevated bench. Leather scraps are visible at their feet. Photographer is unknown, but it could possibly be (or connected to) Fred Brigden. |

Provenance |
Prints were part of a collection of old papers purchased by the donor at an auction sale at MacGregor Auctions in Orono, Ontario on Dec. 9, 2012 from the Gray Estate. The papers seem to relate to a notable artist/engraver, Fred H. Brigden. There is no apparent connection between the Gray Estate and Fred H. Brigden, although there was a father and son team working together as photo engravers in Toronto in 1911, and there was a Henry Brigden in Port Elgin who had a son Fred. |
